In Yosemite b.s. this is called the giant stairway, the two drops or steps that the Merced River runs over. Beyond it is Little Yosemite Valley, a notorious black bear hangout. Still further are the High Sierra peaks that are the well-spring of the river itself.

Photographed with a Mamiya film camera, a telephoto lens, a tripod and a orange filter. The filter darkens the sky and cuts the haze. The negative was scanned by me with a wet mount system. The image was adjusted in photoshop for contrast, and burned and dodged. The image was then printed on an archival Canon Printer on archival paper.
