Fallen Tree with Ice and Snow, Lyell Creek, Yosemite National Park
What attracted me to this scene was the ice that froze on the branches of the log above the water on the upper left. This was a most difficult shot to set up - there was so much to get in focus. Using a view camera one can contort the lens and film planes to change the plane of focus to an angle where most of the image is sharp, then by stopping down the lens (hopefully) the rest falls into place.
I used a Sinar View film camera with a 180mm lens, a tripod, and black and white 4x5” film. The negative was scanned with a wet mount system. The image was adjusted in photoshop for contrast, and burned and dodged. The image was then printed on an archival Canon Printer on archival paper. This is a very detailed image that can be enlarged very well.
